THE Museum of Australian Army Flying
at Oakey will stage their Annual Fly-In
on October 6-7.
Aircraft from the Oakey Army
Aviation Centre, including the Kiowa,
Black Hawk, Tiger and MRH-90 will be
on display as well of some of Australia's
best vintage and collectable aircraft.
The Toowoomba Aeromodellers'
Association will show their expertise
with model aircraft flying, while the
Darling Downs Scale Modellers will
have a comprehensive static display
and the Army Group South will display
memorabilia and old vehicles.
Board Secretary Helen Bawden said
some of this year's drawcards included a
Mustang and a Wirraway.
"Another special aircraft attend-
ing will be an ex-Army Sioux A1-660,
affectionately known as Oscar, which
is celebrating 50 years of service," Mrs

on Blood Challenge
TO HELP Army come out on top in the
Defence Organisation Blood Challenge,
donors are encouraged to spread the word
through the "we 'like' you donating"
Download and print a copy of the "I
gave blood for Army" sign from www.
army.gov.au and take a photo before, dur-
ing or after your donation.
Send your photo to army.contact@
defence.gov.au to have it posted on the
Army Facebook page to recognise your
contribution and encourage others to do
The photo with the most likes at the
end of the challenge will receive a limited
edition copy of the 2011 Army In Profile.
In the first three weeks of the blood
challenge, which started on September
1, Army led the way with 120 donations,
with Navy and Air Force trailing close
behind with 81 and 68 donations.
The challenge runs until November
30, so there is still plenty of time to roll
up your sleeves and give generously.
It is important to register your dona-
tion on the Blood Service's Club Red
website to ensure your donation counts
in the challenge.

ARMY LEADS FROM THE START
OUTGOING Secretary of the
Department of Defence, Duncan
Lewis, has been nominated as the
Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg,
NATO and the European Union.
Mr Lewis leaves Defence on
October 10 in preparation for his new
A former ambassador to the US
and Director General of ASIO, Dennis
Richardson, will take up the position
of Secretary of the Department of
Defence on October 18.
Mr Richardson has been Secretary
of the Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade since December 2009 and is
expected to serve in his new role with
Defence for the next five years.
