Cpl Ben Roberts-Smith led Anzac
Day services at Gallipoli.
"It's not until you actually get here
that you realise how little you know
about Gallipoli," Air-Mshl Brown said.
"Just looking at the terrain you see
the sheer difficulty of the operation."
Both men toured the battlefield for
the first time on April 24.
"In war, it's not the fighting that
makes it all so unbearable -- the
Anzacs knew they were here to fight,"
Cpl Roberts-Smith said.
"The difficulty comes from the
heat like today, followed by cold
nights, the lack of water, dysentery,
lice and the steep terrain without any

gathered in Sydney's CBD at the
RAR Memorial to unveil a plaque to
The plaque lists deployments
and locations of the battalion from
December 3, 1973, to when the unit
was de-linked on December 3, 2006,
including Malaysia, Rwanda, East
Timor, Solomon Islands, Cambodia,
Iraq and Afghanistan.
The plaque includes the inscrip-
tion "In honour of those who
served, were wounded, injured or
died. Lest we forget."
