THE ArmySAFE Award for Best
Solution to a Workplace Health
and Safety Issue was presented
to HQ Australian Army Cadets
by CA Lt-Gen Ken Gillespie on
HQ Australian Army Cadets
identified the need to have a risk
management tool that aligns with
the Army military risk manage-
ment model, but which is appropri-
ate for use by civilians not trained
in the military risk management
The electronic risk manage-
ment planning tool, developed by
Australian Army Cadets, has seen
a marked improvement in the qual-
ity of risk management plans.
This consistency has also
improved timeliness and enhanced
the ability to share knowledge.
In announcing the award, the
CA said the initiative and dedi-
cation shown by HQ Australian
Army Cadets had improved the
safety of all Cadet personnel and
was a great credit to the unit, its
members and the Army.
The ArmySAFE Award was
accepted by Lt-Col (AAC) Peter
Gavican, Command Safety
Manager -- Australian Army
Cadets, on behalf of the formation
safety advisers within the Army
Cadets who collaboratively devised
the risk management tool.
Lt-Col (AAC) Gavican made
particular note of the contribution by
Maj Alan Hall, OC Army Financial
Services Unit -- Queensland
Detachment, who provided technical
assistance to the project.
"I applaud the efforts of the
Australian Army Cadets in develop-
ing this tool, which has the poten-
tial for wider application across the
ADF," Lt-Gen Gillespie said.
"I commend HQ Australian
Army Cadets for its performance
and accomplishments in providing
a solution to an identified work-
place health and safety issue."
The Australian Army Cadets is a personal
development program for young people,
conducted by the Army in cooperation
with the community, which is designed to
benefit the nation by developing individu-
als, their communities and the Army.
