DARWIN-based soldier Cpl
Anthony Novak is feeling pret-
ty pumped after he took out the
Australian body building title.
Capping off a successful season
on the body building circuit he also
took out the Northern Territory title.
PTI Cpl Novak, 1CSSB, had
only competed in two previous body
building competitions and said win-
ning the Australian title on October
22 was a great experience.
"The feeling was quite over-
whelming but I was just happy that I
got the chance to take part," he said.
"To be part of an event with
some of the best names in ama-
teur Australian bodybuilding is an
amazing feeling and taking out the
Aussie title is something no one can
ever take away from me."
Cpl Novak, who competed in the
NT titles on October 9 before trav-
elling to Sydney to compete in the
Australian titles, said competing in
two competitions so close together
"I really had my eye set on the
NT competition and tried not to
worry too much about the Aussie
titles," he said.
"It was hard to stay focused after
my first win, but it was important
for me to concentrate for a further
Cpl Novak who competed in the
men's bodybuilding classic divi-
sion said he started to prepare for
the competitions as soon as he com-
pleted last year's NT titles.
"I was not happy with the shape
of my body after the 2009 com-
petition, nor was I happy with the
amount of weight I lost during the
dieting phase due to illness," he
"I felt I never reached my full
potential for the competition.
"This year I was more motivated
and had a much better understand-
ing of what was required."
At the start of this year Cpl
Novak along with his training part-
ners Adam and Charlie changed
their routines to incorporate fascia
He also incorporated abdominal
training to bring out and develop
"Preparation was the key," he
said.Cpl Novak said he started his
dieting with a two week-cleansing
diet then began his strict dieting in
"This allowed me to strip off the
excess weight over the set period
because too much too soon would
mean stripping muscle mass which
could have been detrimental to the
outcome and end result."
After his success this year, Cpl
Novak has been invited to com-
pete in the Arnold Schwarzenegger
Sports Festival in Columbus Ohio in
March next year.
