RESERVIST artillerymen from
NSW have demonstrated their
skills on their prized Hamel guns
to their nearest and dearest.
The 7 Fd Regt gunners fired
their allocated rounds in front of
more than 50 people at a family day
to showcase the effectiveness of the
regiment's L118 Light Guns at the
Singleton range as part of an exer-
cise held from May 14-16.
Bdr Tristan Strategos, 113 Bty,
enjoyed his final exercise with the
regiment before transferring to the
Darwin-based 8/12 Mdm Regt.
His partner, Peta Turtorn, was a
keen spectator at the family day and
is delighted at the couple's impend-
"It's exciting and I'm looking
forward to him going further in the
career he loves," Ms Turtorn said.
Families and friends were clear-
ly excited to be on hand for a few
hours to share in the exercise to get
an idea what the regiment's mem-
bers did when serving the nation
Four Hamel guns made up the
gun line and fired adjustments on
targets up to 6km away.
Sgt Justin Atchison, 113 Bty,
acknowledged he could one day
work with mortars with the regi-
ment rather than the L118s.
"We just work with what tools
we have in the shed at the time," Sgt
Lt-Col Grant Palmer, 7 Fd Regt
CO, said there was a good roll-up
for the training weekend. He said
recruit numbers were growing and
the unit was enjoying good morale.
"We are very mindful that the
time a reservist gives to the Army
comes out of his or her time with
family, so we wanted to show what
their loved ones were doing for
Australia and thank them for their
support," Lt-Col Palmer said.
The regiment comprises 28 Bty
and 113 Bty.

Millar, left, and Gnr
Adrian Gardiner, 28
Bty, take advantage
of a lull in the firing at
Singleton to catch up.
