A DIRECTIVE from Comd 1 Div
Maj-Gen Michael Slater to sharpen
military defence skills has spurred
3CSSB into action.
With the directive of "eighty per cent
of all personnel within the units of 1 Div
are to be qualified as MSD exponents by
October 1" hanging in the air, the first of
16 military self defence courses planned
within 3 Bde got under way.
Hosted by 3CSSB at Lavarack
Barracks, seven new instructors, 36 new
exponents and seven existing instructors
gained requalification in a successful
start to meeting the directive.
A large number of nominations were
received for the course as units across 3
Bde focused on the importance of hav-
ing their soldiers trained in unarmed
MSD training provides exponents
with a wide range of useful, non-lethal
techniques and exposes them to realistic
scenarios that may be encountered while
During the course, students gained a
greater understanding of the importance
of physical fitness to cope with a range
of situations during scenario training
while experiencing stress and fatigue.
MSD senior instructor WO2 Steve
Gibbs, 3CSSB, was pleased no inju-
ries were recorded for the course and
the exponents were able to achieve a
high level of skill because of the efforts
of MSD instructors and the support of
3 Bde units.
